I mean, everybody knows Diez Vistas, out at Buntzen lake...
But what about the 'other side' ? What is over there?
Some great trails, that's what's over there!!
I had never ventured over to the mountains on the east side of Buntzen Lake. I had ran loops around the lake, which included Diez Vistas on one side, and the Buntzen Lake trail on the other. I had no idea about Lindsay Lake, the Halvor Lunden trail, and Eagle Mountain.
Last week I decided to do some exploring..and what a gem i found. Well, that is if you like steep and technical.
Two runs (hikes), and i really got to explore the Eagle Ridge side. Climbing the HL from the North end sure reminded me of going up Black Mtn on the Knee Knacker route. Very steep (as you can see from the photo above).
The highest peak along the route is just over 4000 feet, but there is a lot of up and down along the full route. On my first adventure, I started at the south end and I hit snow and turned back at Lindsay Lake. Not knowing what to expect, i didn't want to push my luck.
On my second try, i started from the other side (North end). The snow had melted, and i was able to get the full Halvor Lunden in under 3 hours
Obviously the snow level is 'make it or break it' for the east side of Buntzen, but if you have the chance, i highly recommend taking a run at it.
